Our starting position
What are the rights of children about? Declaration of rights of child was created to ensure for children security and trust so they can develop and grow in the environment where they can freely explore and learn having guidance and help from the world of adults. It is a tool to provide children with conditions under which they can realize their potential abounding with humanity – the most important characteristic of human kind.

Thinking process
So far we have noticed, there are two perspectives offered by participants in the competition. One mostly predominated in the first half of the competition is focused on violation of rights of children in daily life. Neglect, ignorance, fear, misuse, loneliness were very well captured by authors and we admit that the pictures carry very deep message to warn people to avoid such treatment.

The other perspective brought by those who took part in the competition is a positive side of being a child. Playfulness, spontaneity, learning and exploring, safety, activity and freedom are just few aspects of the impression evoked by the pictures.

Appreciation
We would like to thank to all who have contributed by their own perspective on this topic, we would like to thank Juvente Estonia for organizing the competition and we would like to express our hope that this competition is not the last one of this kind.

..And the winner is…
The picture appointed by us as a winning one is titled “Give me wings” by Tiina Rekand. Our motivation to choose this picture was our common decision to concentrate on the positive aspects of being a child. In our opinion the winning picture carries the most of implicit and explicit messages describing the pleasure coming together with childhood.
We appreciate connection to the nature and the child’s curiosity toward it and other creatures.
Presence of adults standing a bit aside creates a feeling of safety and at the same time of leaving the child space to explore on her/his own. Space and freedom are emphasized by the birds as well.
Freedom, purity, peace and self realization are parts of the atmosphere the picture evokes and what has made us to choose “Give me wings” as the winner and all the chocolate taker =)

The 3 members of the jury have been elected. They are:

1. Mark Kuslapuu from Estonia. He is not connected to EGTYF, but is the main organizer of a film festival for amateur youth in Rakvere, Estonia.

2. Kristina Sperkova from Slovakia. She is a project manager in the EGTYF office in Sweden at the moment, is interested as well in human rights as photography.

3. Katarina Keresztesova. She is studying Social Psychology in London to get her PhD and is not connected to EGTYF. She is interested in arts including photography and has dealt with the topic of human rights.

You are on the webpage of good-will photo competition. It started on the 10th of December as the Day of Human Rights and will end on the 14th of February.

The theme is one paragraph from the children rights:

One participant can send up to five photos, in .jpg format.

The photo should not be changed in a editing programme like photoshop etc.

Photos will be valued by a jury. The list with the members of the jury will be out soon.

Added to the photo should be the date, place and authors name.

The winner gets a lot of chocolate!

All the best with taking pictures! Lots of ideas and great impressions!
